Cahiers d'archéologie romande
The Cahiers d'archéologie romande (Notebooks of Archaeology in French-speaking Switerland - CAR), published in Lausanne and managed by the Cantonal Museum of Archaeology and History, are the organization of choice for the publication of the scientific results of excavations and surveys that are carried out in the Vaud Canton, especially thanks to subsidies allocated by the MCAH's publication fund.
The CAR collection was founded in 1974 by Colin Martin. As editor and one-man band of the Bibliothèque historique vaudoise (Vaud Historical Library) since its creation in 1939, Martin started this new project with the enlightened support of the Société académique vaudoise (Vaud Academic Society). The observation that there was a lack of an appropriate editorial medium for disseminating the scientific results of archaeology persuaded him that such a collection had a future.
The management of the CAR was taken over in 1993 by Gilbert Kaenel, Daniel Paunier and Denis Weidmann. Lionel Pernet joined the publishing committee in 2015. An association has been created in 2020, in which the Archéologie cantonale (Cantonal Archaeology), the Université de Lausanne (University of Lausanne), the Site et Musée romains d’Avenches (Roman Site and Museum of Avenches) and the MCAH are represented. It is currently chaired by Denis Weidmann.
